Candela delivers electric vessels to Saudi Arabia’s future city NEOM

Candela, the Swedish innovator of electric boats, has announced an exciting partnership with NEOM, Saudi Arabia’s futuristic megacity. Under this new collaboration, Candela will supply its groundbreaking flying electric vessels P-12, to NEOM as part of the city’s ambitious vision for sustainable and futuristic transportation. This marks a significant milestone for Candela, as NEOM will become one of the first regions in the world to utilize Candela’s state-of-the-art electric watercraft.

Candela’s electric ships are known for their foiling technology, which allows the vessels to “fly” above the water’s surface. This innovative approach drastically reduces energy consumption and offers a smoother, faster, and more efficient mode of water-based transport. The partnership with NEOM aligns with Saudi Arabia’s push towards sustainability and green energy solutions as part of the country’s Vision 2030 plan, which seeks to diversify its economy and reduce its dependence on oil.

    A Vision of future transportation

NEOM, a $500 billion megacity currently under development, is set to become a beacon of sustainability and cutting-edge technology. The city is designed to operate entirely on renewable energy and aims to incorporate the latest technological advancements into its infrastructure. NEOM will leverage Candela’s electric flying boats to provide a zero-emission alternative to traditional watercraft. The vessels will play a key role in NEOM’s advanced transportation network, which focuses on green mobility solutions.

    Quote from Candela CEO

Candela’s CEO, Gustav Hasselskog, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating:
“We are thrilled to partner with NEOM in delivering the future of maritime transportation. Candela’s mission has always been to accelerate the transition to fossil-free lakes and oceans. By introducing our electric flying boats to NEOM, we are contributing to a sustainable, high-tech transportation system that aligns with NEOM’s visionary goals.”

    NEOM’s Commitment to Sustainability

NEOM’s collaboration with Candela is part of the city’s broader commitment to clean energy and sustainable living. The city aims to position itself as a global hub for innovation in energy, mobility, and urban living, and Candela’s electric boats are a perfect fit for these ambitions.

By incorporating Candela’s cutting-edge technology into its infrastructure, NEOM continues to solidify its position as a trailblazer in sustainable urban development. The electric flying boats will serve as a symbol of NEOM’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and advancing a greener future.

    Future Prospects

As NEOM continues to develop, Candela’s electric ships may serve as the blueprint for sustainable water-based transportation across other global megacities. With growing concerns about climate change and the impact of fossil fuel-based transportation, Candela’s technology provides a scalable solution that can be adopted by other cities and regions seeking to modernize their transportation systems.

The partnership between Candela and NEOM underscores the importance of innovative, green technology in building the cities of tomorrow. By embracing electric flying ships, NEOM is setting a new standard for sustainable transportation, not only in Saudi Arabia but worldwide.
